History
You learn as long as you live…and we have lived a long time!
Dohrns was founded by Fritz Dohrn in 1925. Fritz, who was a very talented artist and painter, passed one of Stockholm’s first cinemas and noted that the poster for the movie premiere was not very good. He went to the owner who sat at the counter and offered to paint a new poster in return for 50 cents. The owner agreed and the very next day Fritz came back with two large posters.
The satisfied owner happened to be Anders Sandrew, one of Sweden’s most prominent cinema and theater owners. The initial contact between the two men developed into a successful working partnership, and Dohrns was founded.
Dohrns continued to provide facade advertising to all of Sandrews cinemas and theaters over many decades. During the first 40 years, all cinema and theater advertising—including expo stands, signs, and window displays—was hand-painted by Dohrns. Other works included backlit signs that were built with light bulbs placed behind the lettering, an early precursor to today’s neon signs!
In the eighty’s and ninety’s, Dohrns focused it’s expansion on stand production in response to the trade show boom. The new form of advertising was continued in the same spirit of the founder’s original works, created with fine craftsmanship and design.
In recent years, event production has also joined the ever-expanding array of products and services provided by Dohrns.
Although, times have changed, Dohrns’ objective still remains the same as it was in 1925: to highlight your message. The tools are also the same: creativity, experience and craftsmanship.
Again, you learn as long as you live…
